A SPEEDING Smart automobile motorist who killed a cyclist in a hit-and-run has been jailed for 6 years.
Uninsured Ugur Unlu, 23, was doing some-more than 50mph in a 20mph section in a automobile borrowed from his friend, Huseyin Kaygisiz.
Unlu hit 30-year-old Anita Szucs head-on as he attempted to pass another automobile on Bounces Road, in Enfield, North London, last February.
Laying out the case, Judge Rebecca Poulet QC told the defendant: “You, Mr Unlu lived on Bounces Road and did not need to have driven a automobile that night.
“You could have walked home from where the automobile was parked nearby.”
The victim, who was on her way home from a late-night change at Lidl when she was hit, suffered “terrible” injuries and died in hospital, the Old Bailey was told.
Unlu, of Cheshunt, Herts, sped off with a cracked windscreen and dumped the car. He pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
Tamas Mezo, Szucs’s husband, attended court, and according to Poulet, has been “totally shattered” by the death of his wife.
Kaygisiz, the owners of the vehicle, certified death by no insurance and dangerous driving.
The business undergraduate who was in the newcomer chair at the time of the crash, was condemned to 24 weeks in jail dangling for two years. He also perceived 150 hours of delinquent work and two months of a curfew.
