President Trump and first lady Melania Trump will lay out this year’s Kennedy Center Honors after several honorees pronounced they would protest a normal accepting at the White House forward of the Dec ceremony.
“The President and First Lady have motionless not to attend in this year’s activities to concede the honorees to applaud but any domestic distraction,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders pronounced in a matter Saturday morning.
Kennedy Center authority David Rubenstein and boss Deborah Rutter pronounced the Center respects the decision. In a statement, Rubenstein and Rutter pronounced “the Administration has courteously signaled its honour for the Kennedy Center,” adding they “are beholden for the gesture.”
The Trumps’ decision to skip the festivities in Washington, D.C., comes after 3 of the 5 recipients of the 2017 honorees pronounced they would skip the now-canceled White House reception.
Television idol Norman Lear pronounced in early Aug that he would decrease the invitation to the White House but attend the endowment ceremony. Lionel Richie pronounced on Tuesday he was also deliberation a boycott. Dancer Carmen de Lavallade told the Washington Post on Thursday she would be skipping the reception.
“In light of the socially divisive and implicitly antacid account that the stream care is selecting to rivet in, and in gripping with the beliefs that we and so many others have fought for, we will be disappearing the invitation to attend the accepting at the White House,” she pronounced in a matter to the Post.
Singer Gloria Estefan, however, had pronounced she would attend the accepting and take the event to speak to Mr. Trump about immigration. LL Cool Jto accept the prestigious endowment and was tentatively scheduled to attend the reception.
The 2017 Kennedy Center Honors rite will be held on Dec. 3 and air on CBS and CBS All Access on Dec. 26.
